Craps 5-Count System

The 5-Count is a craps strategy developed by a craps pro known as The Captain. The Captain is well known in Atlantic City and Las Vegas for leading The Crew, a group of 22 high rollers.

The 5-Count focuses on taking free odds on numbers and hence try to maximise the player's advantage as much as possible (since free odds are paid at true odds). It is a bit quirky, but generally craps players have their own way of thinking.

5-Count System (or the Supersystem)

If at any point a seven is rolled begin the count again.

Begin the 1-Count when any point number is rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10). You then make an
equal sized bet on both the Don't Come and the Come, i.e $5 on Don't Come and $5 on Come. We can call this bet the Doey-Don't bet.

You continue 2-Count, 3-Count & 4-Count for any non-seven rolls. You continue placing Doey-Don't bets for each roll.

The 5-Count is only reached when a point number is rolled after the 4-Count. Once you have reached the 5-Count you begin taking odds on all your numbers, you should have 1 - 4 numbers working. You should take the maximum odds allowed for each number.

You continue the doey-don't bets, placing max odds on any point numbers you pick up or replace. If the shooter makes his point, you can make the doey-don't bet on the pass and and don't pass lines.

You continue doing this until the shooter misses your numbers 3 times in a row. You then remove your odds for 2 rolls. After two rolls (if a seven hasn't been rolled) put your odds back on. Keep doing this until a seven is rolled and you lose your numbers.

5-Count High Roller System

For players who are looking to play at casinos and aim for RFB (Room, Food & Beverages) and other comps that your casino might offer, the High Roller System is better for getting rated by the casino. The problem with the standard 5-Count is that you won't have much money at risk most of the time (because of the high use of the doey-don't bets) so not many casinos will consider you for rating.

The high roller system takes on more risk but you can still be up after a bad run when you consider the free RFB. You may be down $500 but if the RFB for a weekend would have cost you $800, then your still up. Some players simply enjoy getting the general high roller treatment by the casino host etc. Casinos will do pretty much anything for their highest of high rollers. Having the casino's vast resources at your petty disposal can be quite the kick for a certain class of gamblers. So if being a high roller is one of your aims then consider this modified version of the 5-Count.

The idea here is to mimic regular crap high rollers and make use of place and buy bets. The high roller system is adjusted on the 5 count, where you place the 6 and the 8 for $60 each. Further you buy the 4 OR 10 for $35. Like the regular 5-Count, when the shooter misses your numbers three times take off your place and buy bets for two rolls.

Once a shooter is starting to get hot, you can start to use The Captain's Pilgrim's Progression to increase your bets to capitalise on favourable situations. It works like this, after hitting your numbers 5 times increase your places bets on the 6 and 8 to $90. After winning 3 more times, buy either 4 or 10 (whichever you don't have). After 2 more wins, increase your place bets to $120. After 2 more wins increase one of the buy bets to $55. On the next win increase the other buy bet to $55. You should now have $120 place bets on the 6 and 8 plus $55 buy bets on the 4 and 10. This should all be done while running the normal 5 count system. If you win If you win three more times, buy the 4 and 10 for $75 and the 6 and the 8 for $150. After two more wins increase your buy bets to $95. You should stay at this bet pattern but if you want to keep increasing then increase the place bets in increments of $30 and the buy bets in increments of $20.

Limited Bankroll 5-Count

The Limited Bankroll system is for those who still like to get alot of comps buts don't have the bankroll to gamble at the high stakes.

Assuming $5 minimum, on the 5-count you place bet $6 on the 6 and 8. Keep your numbers working until five rolls, if you don't hit any of your numbers within the five rolls take your place bets for two rolls. After two rolls, put your place bets back on for 3 rolls. If you don't hit your numbers within 3 rolls, take off your bets for another two rolls. Every time you hit your 6 or 8, give yourself another 5 rolls. If you want to get rated faster you can increase your place bets to $12, $18, $24 etc up to $60 (If you can afford $60 place bets, you should consider the high roller system).

If you want to maximise your winning streaks then The Captain recommends you wait until your numbers hit 6 times, then increase either the 6 or 8 to $12. On the seventh hit increase the other number for $12. If you win another six times, again increase one to $24 and the other on the next hit. Keep doing this every sixth hit get to $48. Once you have $48 on your place bets, make the next increase $60. After this point, play the high roller system.

A second method of increasing action on your winning streaks is to spread your bets across. First, increase your place bets to $12 on 6 and 8. If your numbers hit another six times, make a $5 place bet on the 5 and the 9. You now should $12 place bets on the 6 and 8 plus $5 place bets on the 5 and 9, giving you a total of $34 at risk (not including you basic 5-count numbers and odds bets). When you win a total of $118, increase all your place bets by 1 unit. In this case, we would increase the 6 and 8 place bets from $12 to $18 and increase the 5 and 9 place bets from $5 to $10. Every time you win $118, increase your place bets by 1 unit. Do this until you have $60 place bets on 6 and 8, after this point play the high roller system.

That's The Captain's 5-Count craps system. The system does not appear to me to be mathematically logical but the man is said to have been using the High Roller 5-Count system profitably for over 10 years, using The Crew as a cover for his wins. Since there are no hard mathematical reasons for the rules, I suggest that if you like the system generally you adjust the rules for when to take odds on and off and also adjust the progression bets to your personal tastes.  Good luck!
